MEDIAFEST
WHAT IS IT?

1st Annual Delta College Mediafest

You are cordially invited to attend the first-ever Delta College Mediafest (May 22, 2009 - 5-8PM).  The main topic of discussion at Mediafest will be — the future of mass media.  Are newspapers, radio stations, and TV stations doomed?  If they are…what comes next?  As they currently exist, what will they have to do to survive?  What will the mass media industry of the future look like…how will it function?  As it currently exists…is there a future for the mass media industry?  How is it possible to make money reporting and broadcasting over the Internet?  We are going to examine, discuss, prognosticate, and even evaluate the potential future of mass media.  Come be part of a town hall discussion that might help determine the future of local media.

Another purpose of this interactive, two-way conversation is to learn what the people of the local mass media business/industry feel are the skills necessary for students to learn in order to achieve success working in mass media. To survive and be successful, not only in the current ways of presenting mass media, but more importantly, what is necessary to learn to be prepared for a career in the ever-changing and evolving field of presenting content/information.  You will also have the opportunity to meet with, and see and hear what Delta College’s best web designers, animators, backpack journalists, bloggers, podcasters, streaming radio broadcasters, streaming television broadcasters, graphic designers, digital audio engineers, digital filmmakers, digital photographers, and other digital media content creators have developed this past school year.

Come meet and learn what Delta College’s media instructors are currently offering and developing for future media instruction.  View award-winning student created websites, images, publications, animations, short movies, documentaries, newscasts, commercials, and other impressive digital visual creations.  Listen to original studio engineered tunes, radio air-checks and movie/TV sound effects.  The local professional media community is encouraged to evaluate and advise Delta’s up-and-coming media talent.

Fun, educational, and beneficialConsider your visit to Mediafest a public/community service…Based on the information collected during the evening, especially during the future of mass media discussion, the new Digital Media program will be developed.  This information will help determine what equipment, software, and type of instruction is necessary to do the best job possible when it comes to training students for careers in the evolving mass media world.
